Facebook flub trips U.K. welfare cheat

STOKE, England, May 25 (UPI) --

A British woman who bragged of her happy marriage on Facebook has admitted to fraudulently collecting welfare benefits for being a single parent, officials say.

Claire Harbrone, 35, Stoke, confessed to authorities that she lived with her husband while collecting housing and tax benefits by claiming to be a single mom for nearly a year in 2006 and 2007, The Sun reported.

The Sun said Monday that a tip led investigators to her Facebook site and another on Friends United in which she talked about being happily wed and driving a swell Aston Martin car.

The newspaper said Harborne had no comment and slammed the door on the reporter who knocked on her door. The newspaper said no Aston Martin was seen in the vicinity.
