Bing Search Engine
Microsoft has recently announced Bing, their new search engine. Bing will replace Live Search. CEO Steve Ballmer made the announcement at The Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital conference on Thursday.
Ballmer said they chose the name "Bing" because it could be used globally. The new search engine focuses tightly on providing reliable health information, travel resources, shopping resources and local information to their users.
Microsoft has struggled for years to put together a competitive search product and Bing is their latest effort to penetrate market share in the lucrative field of search. Currently, Microsoft and their search product, Live, holds less than 10% of the search market. Search giant, Google holds about a 60% share of internet searches.
Microsoft hopes to differentiate their search product by giving their vistors a better user experience by displaying the most relevant results. This could include video results and other listings.
Bing will launch on June 3, 2009.
