SEOUL, May 29 (UPI) --
North Korea Friday warned the U.N. Security Council, critical of its nuclear test, that new sanctions would mean more "self-defense measures," officials say.
The warning, issued by the North Korean Foreign Ministry, came as the five members of the Security Council, including the United States and North allies Russia and China, discussed ways to punish the North's second underground nuclear test Monday.
South Korea and Japan also were in on the talks, the Yonhap news agency reported.
"Should the U.N. Security Council attempt further provocations, our further self-defense measures will be inevitable in response," the North said in a statement .
The North called the permanent members of the Security Council "hypocrites" for criticizing its rocket launch and nuclear test when those countries had done most of the nuclear testing in the past.
