The Summer Of Celebrity Crime And Punishment
by Alan Henderson in gossip

Celebrity Arrests At All Time High
The recent celebrity crime spree has been out of control. Are celebrities commiting
crimes at a faster rate than average citizens? A glance at recent headlines might just give you that impression. In the last few weeks alone we've seen the CEO of HBO lose his job for slapping his girlfriend around (not even his first time), Paris Hilton received jail time for her DUI conviction, Ty Pennington was charged with a DUI, as were Eve, and Busta Rhymes. Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears both entered and left rehab, without arrests.
We saw Chad Kroeger punch a fan in Vancouver this past week. Akon dry humped a fan. Tom
Sizemore was again arrested.
He was using meth in a parking lot. All of these incidents are fresh! R. Kelly was arrested five years ago, but his trial has never come. It will soon. So this will be the summer of celebrity arrests and jail terms.
Behind every corner there may be another celebrity lurking, ready to break the law. So are we in danger as a society?
In a practical sense, we're not. Celebrities make up too small a percentage of the world to even matter. But from a sense of "moral leadership" or being "role models" the current crop of ne'er do well celebs is sorely missing character. Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and
Britney Spears APPEAR to do nothing but party all day. And I think it might not be an
act.
So what is society saying to young people when it glorifies the actions of the elite even when they act like trash? I think it tells people the truth: that fame and money don't buy class, and just because your favorite singer might make music you like, it doesn't make them a good person. So I say teach your children what I taught mine: don't worship anyone in this world, except your old man! Because all of your so-called Celluloid Heroes have Achilles Heels. Generally in the form of drugs and alcohol, which is apparently the coping mechanism they use to deal with the pressures of fame.
