WASHINGTON, June 4 (UPI) --
A vote on a U.S. spending bill has been delayed by Republican opposition to money for the International Monetary Fund, Democratic leaders said Thursday.
The supplemental spending bill includes funding for a troop increase in Afghanistan, which led to 51 votes against it last month from Democrats, The Hill reported. Republicans supported the bill until the Senate added $5 million to help cover a new IMF line of credit.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters at a news conference the bill now appears to have no Republican support. That means she needs to convince at least 18 of the Democrats who voted against it to change their minds.
If some Democrats join Republicans on the IMF, the total increases.
The bill had been scheduled for a vote Friday, which has now been postponed.
