Miley Cyrus is famous for her role as "Hannah Montana", but she's also becoming famous in her own right, as she breaks away from her alter ego. Today she'll be releasing her first album exclusively under her own name when "Breakout" hits stores today.
The big question is, can Miley succeed beyond her Disney audience? So far she's been "Hannah Montana", complete with blonde wig, as her adoring fans eat up her work. Miley thinks she's ready for the transition.
"To be played on these radio stations is awesome, to be able to rock out to it in your car without planning it, without it being just a kids channel," says Miley. I'm making it a little more fun and edgy, and I think being able to step out of the 'Hannah Montana' thing - not in a way where I'm forgetting her completely, but as my fans grow up, me growing up too and kind of having my own person."
The eventual success or failure of "Breakout" will show whether the world is ready to accept Miley for herself, without her alter ego "Hannah Montana". If a larger audience embraces her music, it can only be good for her burgeoning career.
