COL BB: Arizona St. 12, North Carolina 5

OMAHA, June 19 (UPI) --

Cole Calhoun hit a grand slam and touched off an eight-run seventh inning with a two-run double Thursday, launching Arizona State past North Carolina 12-5.

Arizona State remained alive in the College World Series and set up a Friday meeting with unbeaten Texas.

Texas overcame a six-run deficit to down Arizona State Tuesday and Arizona State rallied from four runs down against North Carolina in Thursday's game.

Calhoun tied it with his grand slam in the fifth inning and drove in the first two runs in the seventh. Zack MacPhee and Drew Maggi also had two-run singles in the Wildcats' big inning.

The College World Series field was reduced to four teams and all of them will be in action Friday. LSU will meet Arkansas in the afternoon before the evening battle between Texas and Arizona State.

Wins by Texas and LSU would advance them into next week's best-of-three championship series. Arkansas and Arizona State need to win Friday and again Saturday to advance to the finals.
