KABUL (AFP) --
A soldier from the NATO-led coalition in Afghanistan was killed in a bomb explosion in the south of the country the same day two other foreign soldiers also died, the alliance force said Saturday.
The trooper, whose nationality was not disclosed, was killed in a bomb explosion on Friday, the same day the US-led coalition announced the death of two of its soldiers in the same region.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member was killed as a result of an Improvised Explosive Device strike by insurgents in southern Afghanistan yesterday," the alliance force said in a statement.
However, it did not say exactly where the explosion took place.
"The absolute commitment of this service member shines like a beacon to guide us as we pursue peace for the people of Afghanistan," the statement said, quoting General Richard Blanchette, ISAF's spokesman.
There are close to 90,000 foreign mainly Western forces based in Afghanistan fighting an increasingly bloody insurgency being waged by the Taliban since they were ousted from power in a US-led offensive in late 2001.
Taliban attacks have increased to record highs in recent weeks highlighting the threat posed to the country's presidential elections set for August 20.
The lastest casualty brought to 145 the number of foreign soldiers killed this year in Afghanistan.
