WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) --
America's first family has found a spiritual home -- the nondenominational church at Camp David, White House aides said.
President Barack Obama and his family have been looking for a new church for the past five months, quietly visiting Washington-area houses of worship and reviewing sermons of prospective ministers in their search for a new, low-key church, Time magazine reported Monday.
In deciding to make Evergreen Chapel his primary place of worship, Obama follows former President George W. Bush's lead, aides said. Factoring into Obama's decision were financial, political and personal considerations, as well as the desire to worship outside of the public eye.
While settling on a church, Obama still is seeking a spiritual adviser, Time said. He broke ties in 2009 with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his former pastor, and resigned his membership at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, after Wright made racist and provocative remarks,
Aides said Obama is following former President Bill Clinton's actions in this area by having a small group of pastors he contacts for prayer and spiritual support.
