Jankovic wins Stuttgart tennis event

STUTTGART, Germany, Oct. 5 (UPI) --

Jelena Jankovic banged out a 6-4, 6-3 win Sunday against Nadia Petrova to capture the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany.

The second-seeded Jankovic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia, claimed her second straight title following last week's China Open at Beijing, giving her three titles this season and eight in her career.

She likely will assume the top spot in the women's world rankings.

"I'm very proud of winning my second tournament in a row," she said. "It wasn't easy coming here from China and I had very tough matches against (Vera) Zvonareva and Venus (Williams), but I'm thrilled to win the Porsche today."

Jankovic took home a $100,000 winner's check.

Petrova, the 2006 Stuttgart champ, fell to 8-10 lifetime in finals, including 1-2 in this season.

The Russian won in Cincinnati before the U.S. Open and lost the title match at Eastbourne, England, prior to Wimbledon.

She fell to 2-6 in career matches against Jankovic.
