New privacy features coming to Facebook

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 2 (UPI) --

A Facebook official says the social networking Web site is implementing new privacy features to protect users in the United States and abroad.

Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Chris Kelly said the new Publisher Privacy Control will allow Facebook users to decide exactly what posted information they want to share with their site friends, The Miami Herald reported Thursday.

"For example, you may want to make some posts available to everyone, while restricting others to your friends and family. You should be able to make that decision every time you share something on Facebook, and soon you'll be able to do this," Kelly said in a blog.

The new privacy option will allow Facebook users to send certain postings only to friends, family members or co-workers, rather than make a universal posting to all of a user's Facebook friends.

The Herald said the new feature is currently being offered to a small number of Facebook members but will soon be available to all of the site's users.
