MLB: Chicago White Sox 5, Kansas City 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 3 (UPI) --

John Danks and Scott Linebrink combined on a six-hitter Friday in carrying the Chicago White Sox to their seventh straight win -- 5-0 over Kansas City.

The White Sox began the evening 2 ½ games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central and maintained their hot streak thanks to a 7 1/3-inning effort from Danks.

Danks (7-6) allowed five hits and struck out five. He has gone at least seven innings while allowing three or fewer runs in five straight starts.

Linebrink came on to retire five of the six men he faced.

A.J. Pierzynski gave Chicago the lead with a second-inning solo homer.

Chicago got the best of Kansas City starter Zack Greinke (10-4), who was trying to become the first pitcher in the American League to win 11 games this season.

Greinke gave up four runs, two earned, on nine hits in six innings. His ERA climbed to 2.00, the worst it has been all season.

The White Sox won on the road for the 13th time in 16 games.
