NEW YORK, July 4 (UPI) --

Jorge Posada's second hit Saturday, a 12th-inning RBI single, helped the New York Yankees edge Toronto 6-5.

Posada's other hit, a solo home run, cut New York's deficit to 3-2 with no outs in the bottom of the fourth.

One of two hits for Hideki Matsui was a second-inning solo homer. Johnny Damon's lone hit was a seventh-inning two-run shot.

Alex Rodriguez had two hits and one RBI, while Mark Teixeira had three hits for the Yankees, who have won nine of their last 10 games.

The winner was reliever Brett Tomko (1-2).

Alex Rios led Toronto with two hits and three RBI. Adam Lind's lone hit was a two-run, sixth-inning homer and Marco Scutaro had two hits and scored a run for the Blue Jays, who have lost six of seven.

The losing pitcher was reliever Shawn Camp (0-4).

Saturday was 70th anniversary of Yankees' great Lou Gehrig's "luckiest man on the face of this earth" speech at the original Yankee Stadium on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, causes muscle atrophy and gradual loss of bodily function.
