Nancy Lieberman Mounts A Comeback

Nancy Lieberman is a half century old, but that won't stop her from mounting a comeback with the WBNA's Detroit Shock. Of course Lieberman has only been signed for a seven day contract, but I guess she's been staying in playing shape.

The surprise move comes as the Shock seek to replace Cheryl Ford, who will miss the rest of the 2008 season.

"At last year's WNBA All-Star Game, our coaching staff watched Nancy run through the skills test. She was very impressive," said Bill Laimbeer, the head coach and GM of the Shock. "We talked after that if the opportunity ever arose to sign her to a seven-day contract we might give her a call. There is no question she is in great shape. I approached her two weeks ago, but the timing was not right." "Can she still compete at this level? I don't know," Laimbeer said. "But I'm going to throw her in the fire."

Lieberman will be the oldest woman ever to play in the WNBA.
