TOKYO, Oct. 6 (UPI) --
Prosecutors in Tokyo have given the go-ahead to indict a man who went on a stabbing rampage last June that left seven people dead and injured 10 others.
Tomohiro Kato, 26, was deemed mentally competent to stand trial following a three-month psychiatric examination, Japan's Kyodo news agency reported Monday.
Investigators say Kato drove a 2-ton truck through an electronics shopping area, striking and killing three men. He then left the truck and fatally stabbed four others with a dagger.
Sources told Kyodo News that Kato had posted messages hinting of a killing spree on a cell phone Web site.
He was quoted as telling investigators, "I was disgusted with (my) life" and "thought about creating a big incident so I could be recognized by those who are involved in the Internet world."
