Obama - Who Cares If Germans Like Him?

by Thomas Colbert in politics

I have to admit, this whole Barack Obama World Tour bit is getting on my nerves. Don't get me wrong, I like Obama. Who doesn't? He's one big lovable grown up Erkel who's bridging the gap between all the people's of the world into one giant Rainbow circle jerk. And I appreciate that. But I have to say, the whole idea that the President of the USA is some sort of rock star who makes the girls swoon in the foreign capitals of the world leaves me cold.

Worse still, the fawning of the reprehensible old guard media is distressing. Most of the news reports I looked at had the reporters falling over themselves to guestimate how many Germans attended the event. I saw claims that ranged from 100,000 to 1,000,000. Not only that, the type of language that was used to describe the event was downright dreamy.

I don't know how many Germans showed up to watch Obama speak in Germany, but I do know one important characteristic about them: they can't vote. Israeli and Middle East pundits mentioned how many in their nations felt that Obama's speeches were designed for the viewers in the United States, and undoubtedly tonight's speech, with the obvious allusions to popular U.S. Presidents such as Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy was designed to make Barack Obama look more Presidential. But that's just not good enough for me. Somehow I expected more meat and substance from the first African-American to make it this far in national politics.

Surely I understand that Barack Obama is just being friendly to our allies. This is in sharp contrast to George "Bellicose" Bush, who has managed to ruffle just about every feather in the world during his lengthy stay in the White House. I feel Obama's soothing image and resonant speech-making is impressive. But I'm just not satisfied at this stage of the game that Obama is qualified for the job that lies ahead. Sure, he's good at campaigning, but we need him to operate in the trenches. For that reason alone I'd like to see much more emphasis on the issues from Obama in upcoming appearances.

If he can maintain his polished image, and start articulating his policy, I might even vote for him.

You can make a necktie "looser," but you can't use it as a noun, dumba**.

I think this was a huge mistake. He canceled his visit to the wounded troops. Last thing he wants is to hear what they want in Iraq. Obama is the biggest looser with the thinnest resume to ever run for POTUS.

Erkel? The right wing really has run out of ideas. Are you sure you didn't get hit on the head by one of those rocks?

A better question is whether anyone cares what your opinion on this is. I certainly don't. You sound bitter about something. buh-bye.

A "grown up Erkel?" That remark alone speaks volumes. You might think you're being witty, but you're just exposing yourself.
