Richard Simmons - King Of The Hill
Richard Simmons hit Capital Hill this week. He acted in his usual fashion, wearing shorts, dancing, and then inevitably bursting into tears. Simmons was meeting with congress in order to attempt to curb childhood obesity.
Childhood obesity is important to Richard Simmons, because he hated his childhood. He said "I don't want any child in America to have my childhood because it was taken away from me because I just wan't good enough. Well I'm good enough," said an emotional Simmons.
Simmons is battling the politicos because Physical Education is being cut at schools around our nation. As Simmons pointed out, children can now expect to live shorter lives than their parents. This is a troubling trend indeed.
Childhood obesity is a growing concern nationwide, as an estimated 16% of all U.S. children suffer from being overweight. Children today suffer a triple whammy when it comes to gaining weight. They exercise less than prior generations, eat more calories, and maintain sedentary lifestyle. There's no doubt that the problem Simmons speaks of is only getting worse.
