MLB: St. Louis 5, Milwaukee 1

MILWAUKEE, July 9 (UPI) --

Ryan Ludwick belted a three-run homer Thursday, helping the St. Louis Cardinals rally to a 5-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Ludwick's only hit, his 13th homer this season, capped a five-run outburst with no outs in the top of the eighth.

The rally began with St. Louis facing a 1-0 deficit due to Mike Cameron's fifth-inning single.

St. Louis also got two hits and one RBI each from Albert Pujols and Brendan Ryan.

Two others had one hit for the Cardinals, who won twice in the three-game series.

Winner Joel Pineiro (7-9) hurled a complete-game three-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts.

He threw 100 pitches, 70 for strikes, in the 12th complete game of his career.

Prince Fielder had two of the three hits for the Brewers, who have lost three of four.

The losing pitcher was reliever Carlos Villanueva (2-5) after his fifth blown save.
