TEHRAN, Oct. 7 (UPI) --
A U.S. Falcon jet was forced to land in Iran Tuesday after it violated the country's airspace, government officials in Tehran said.
The U.S. aircraft, flying at a low altitude, entered Iranian airspace from Turkey despite repeated warnings by the Islamic Republic Air Force, Fars News Agency reported.
The jet's crew and passengers, including five U.S. military officials and three civilians, were released after questioning revealed they unintentionally strayed into Iranian airspace while traveling to Afghanistan, the Iranian news service reported. The Falcon left for Afghanistan after receiving permission from Iranian authorities.
