A Tennessee judge says lawyers for a student charged with hacking into Sarah Palin's e-mail must limit their request for information from the Alaska governor.

David C. Kernell, 21, a student at the University of Tennessee and son of a prominent Memphis Democratic politician, allegedly gained access to Palin's e-mail during the presidential campaign last year by guessing her password and then changing it.

At a hearing Thursday, Magistrate Clifford Shirley told Kernell's attorneys, Wade Davies and Anne Passino, they needed to limit their efforts to get information from Palin, the Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel reported Friday.

The attorneys had said they wanted anything showing whether Palin followed privacy procedures recommended by Yahoo, as well as information on who in Alaska state government could use private e-mail accounts for state business.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Weddle objected to the request for Palin's personal information, the News Sentinel reported.
