MLB: Colorado 5, San Diego 3

SAN DIEGO, July 18 (UPI) --

Clint Barmes homered as the second batter of the game Friday and the Colorado Rockies limited San Diego to three hits in downing the Padres 5-3.

All three San Diego hits came off Ubaldo Jimenez (7-9), who struck out 10 over seven innings. Franklin Morales and Huston Street combined to work two perfect innings, with Street earning his 23rd save.

Josh Geer (1-5) started for San Diego and retired leadoff man Dexter Fowler in the first on a failed bunt attempt. Barmes then put Colorado in front for good by hitting a homer in his second straight game.

A bases-loaded single by Chris Iannetta in the third added two runs and Ian Stewart had a two-run double in the fifth.

Colorado has won three in a row and the Rockies moved within a half game of San Francisco in the race for the National League's wild-card berth.
