FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn., July 18 (UPI) --
Police in Fayetteville, Tenn., arrested a man Saturday suspected of a two-state killing spree that left six people dead, authorities said.
Five victims, some of whom were related, were found in two homes near one another in Fayetteville, Kristin Helm, a spokeswoman, for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, told CNN Saturday. Police in Huntsville, Ala., about 40 miles to the south, discovered the sixth victim after getting a call from their counterparts in Fayetteville.
The suspect, Jacob Lee Shafer, has been questioned by the TBI and is expected to be charged in the deaths of all six victims, Helm said.
Authorities did not say how the victims were killed and did not provide a possible motive.
Sgt. Mickey Allen of the Huntsville Major Crime Unit said Fayetteville police reported Shafer had confessed to the killings, including that of a man whose body was discovered Saturday morning at Hall Cultured Marble and Granite in Huntsville.
Lincoln County Sheriff Murray Blackwelder said the names of the dead were being withheld until families were notified, The Huntsville Times said.
"We have a lot of unanswered questions," Blackwelder told reporters at an afternoon news conference. "There's a lot we can't talk about."
