President Barack Obama called Indonesian President Susilo Yudhoyono Saturday to congratulate him on his election and offer support after the Jakarta bombings.

Obama said the United States will send investigators if Indonesia requests them. He said the two countries are partners in the fight against violent extremists in Southeast Asia and the recent election shows a majority Muslim country can be democratic and diverse.

Nine people were killed and more than 50 injured Friday when suicide bombers struck the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta.

Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, and his sister is half Indonesian. The country has the world's largest Muslim population, though it also has significant Christian, Hindu and Buddhist minorities.
