JetAmerica suspends flights indefinitely

MIAMI, July 19 (UPI) --

JetAmerica, based in Florida, has suspended flights to all markets indefinitely and said it would notify customers and give refunds for tickets.

"We are reluctantly suspending our public charter operations effective today," John Weikle, chief executive officer, said in a statement Friday. "We still strongly believe that there is an unmet need for affordable air service to secondary markets and we look forward to offering this option again in the near future."

JetAmerica had planned to offer discount flights from Toledo, Ohio, to a few destinations, including the New York area, the Toledo Blade said. Weikle said finalizing the slots needed at Newark International Airport took longer than expected.

JetAmerica had promised flights starting at $9 each way, but suspended flights before getting off the ground.

The airline said customers will receive automatic refunds in seven to 14 business days. Any customer not receiving a full refund within 14 days should call 727-451-3970, JetAmerica said.
