CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind., Oct. 7 (UPI) --
Officials at Wabash College are reviewing the Indiana school's policies following a second alcohol-related student fatality in a year.
Freshman Johnny Smith, 18, died last weekend in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity house in Crawfordsville, The Indianapolis Star reported. Family members in Tucson, Ariz., said he might have felt pressured by fraternity brothers to drink too much.
In October 2007, another freshman, Patrick Woehnker, 19, fell off a roof. Wabash officials said alcohol contributed to his death.
Dean of Students Mike Raters said the administration is considering whether it needs to change its policy on teaching students about drinking. The college has twice-yearly sessions attended by fraternity leaders that teach about drinking and the symptoms of alcohol poisoning. However, school officials believe assuming students drink would be a rejection of its policy of "follow the law," the newspaper said.
"Obviously, our work needs to continue in our efforts to raise awareness of the gentleman's rule and responsible citizenry," he said.
