Hurricane Norbert Gains Strength - Storm Headed Towards Mexico

Hurricane Norbert has gained strength and is now a category 3 storm that's on path to impact the shores of Mexico's Baja California
peninsula by the weekend.

At 8 AM PDT today, Hurricane Norbert was located about 460 miles south of the southern tip of Baja, California.

The storm is moving in a west-northwest direction at about 9 miles an hour with maximum sustained winds near 125 miles an hour.

The National Hurricane Center predicted that Norbert will continue in this general direction today and tonight. Tomorrow Norbert is
expected to turn toward the northwest and head north later in the day and into Friday. Since conditions are unpredictable with these storms,
local interests are urged to monitor the progress of the storm.

Tropical Storm Marco, which flooded coastal highways and brought heavy rains to Veracruz yesterday, quickly lost strength after it
made landfall. A number of shelters remain open, since rivers jumped their banks and left the communities of Minatitlan and Hidalgotitlan
10 feet under water.
