Paul Hamm Is Not Going To Beijing Olympics

Paul Hamm is the victim of unfortunate timing. Due to a rotator cuff injury the gymnast won't be able to make it to this year's Summer Olympics.

Hamm withdrew from the competition yesterday, saying his health isn't good enough for him to be competitive.

"For my comeback to be successful, I needed to make continuous progress and have no setbacks," Hamm said. "The time frame I was given was extremely short. This has been hardest decision I've ever had to make, but I have too much respect for the Olympics and my team to continue on when I know the best thing for everyone is for me to step aside."

The news is a big blow to the American hopes for a medal in Gymnastics. Right now Hamm is the best member on the squad. He's the only one who's won world titles. Raj Bhavsar will take Hamm's place.

"Paul at his best is irreplaceable," Bhavsar said. "But I believe in my heart the team goal is the same, and it's definitely within our potential. We're not ever going to give up on that dream."
