Ted Stevens Prosecution Concluded
U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan has called a hearing with Steven's attorneys this afternoon. He will once again listen to their claims that the government intentionally withheld evidence favorable to their client. If the judge agrees, they feel this mistake should lead to a mistrial or a dismissal of all charges.
During the trial last week, the prosecutors admitted that they had intentionally left some evidence out of the trial. This infuriated the judge, who berated them. They claimed that the evidence was left out because of a mistake.
The case against Stevens, 84, centers around the accusation that he lied on Senate forms and concealed more than $250,000 in renovations on his cabin and other gifts from Bill Allen, the former CEO of a giant oil pipeline company, VECO Corp.
