Rihanna's publicist says the singer's weekend stay in the same New York hotel where her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown had checked in was a coincidence.

Brown, 20, pleaded guilty to felony assault after beating up Rihanna, 21, during a heated argument while they were dating last February. As part of his plea deal, Brown was ordered to complete community service and told to stay away from his former girlfriend.

Media reports during the weekend claimed Rihanna and Brown were staying in separate rooms at Trump International Hotel & Tower in Manhattan Friday. Some of the reports suggested the singers had reconciled.

"This was a coincidence," Rihanna's representative told TV's "Access Hollywood." "She's stayed there before as have thousands of other people."
