AURORA, Colo., Aug. 2 (UPI) --
An Aurora, Colo., man goes to trial this week on charges he killed one of his eight children and abused the others, Denver area court officials said.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of Aaron Thompson, who reported his daughter Aarone missing four years ago, The Denver Post reported Sunday.
He said she ran away Nov. 14, 2005, after a fight over a cookie. She would have been 6-years-old at the time, but other reports said she had not been seen for the previous two years.
Family and friends who visited the house didn't report anything amiss, nor did school officials seem to miss the fact she wasn't enrolled in school along with her siblings, court records said.
One of the siblings said he heard Thompson beating the little girl in the basement, followed by silence.
Thompson's live-in girlfriend reportedly told a former boyfriend Aarone drowned in a bathtub. Shelley Lowe was considered a "person of interest" in the case until her death from heart disease at age 33 in 2006.
