5 Home Remedies For Wrinkles That Don't Work
Boredom can lead to a lot of things. Among the less productive things is trying to create a home remedy for wrinkles.

I was skeptical the first time I heard of such a thing, so I looked a little deeper into it. I found some that could be lumped into the category of "techniques" and others more like a "homemade wrinkle smoother", some of which purport to provide fast-acting and long-lasting removal of wrinkles, and others which, admittedly, only will produce temporarily wrinkle-free skin. But why would you want either one? Save yourself some time and stay away from these 5 home remedies.

1. Apply a paste of turmeric powder and sugarcane juice. This would fall under "homemade wrinkle smoother". Further investigation reveals that there is no scientific evidence that turmeric is beneficial to the skin. Rather, this claim is based on anecdotal Indian belief that it makes the skin glow. Sugarcane juice, while offering many health benefits to the body including hydration, offers little more than a cleansing benefit to the skin - nothing that Doveā„¢ couldn't do for you.

2. Pinch the wrinkled skin between your thumb and finger. This home remedy for wrinkles consists of a series of massages to the skin, promoting better circulation. Although this certainly wouldn't hurt, it only addresses one of the many causes of wrinkles. Plus, it takes a minimum of one year to start seeing any results! Oh, and be careful not to pinch too hard - you might cause bruises.

3. Rub lime juice onto the skin. I swear, it's like pulling teeth to find any legitimate basis for this one. The most I can find on lime juice is that it will dry out oily skin, and is helpful in achieving a fair complexion. Um, I'll just wear protective clothing for the summer, and go about my normal routine for the winter. Thanks.

4. Castor oil. I can't seem to make heads or tails of castor oil and its effects. It is used in many over-the-counter products to treat skin problems such as abrasions, sunburns, and cuts. It's still not enough to convince me. Just because the FDA has given its stamp of approval for castor oil as GRASE (generally recognized as safe and effective), doesn't make it a GREHWS - generally recognized effective home wrinkle smoother.

5. Rest some cucumber slices over your eyes and leave on overnight. Remove in the morning. Ah, the one you've been waiting for. The age-old remedy universally believed to cure wrinkles. Is it true? Perhaps I won't be so harsh on this one. Cucumbers do naturally contain ingredients that serve as astringents and emollients for the skin. They also contain the same pH as the skin and act as a cooling agent. However, what I've found is that only high concentrations of cucumber extract will actually reduce swelling or bags under the eyes - certainly a higher concentration than that found in the cucumber slices themselves, which consist of 90% water. Another home remedy for wrinkles busted!

If wrinkles are something by which you are genuinely bothered, you are probably seeking a solution that a) requires minimal maintenance and b) yields the best and most long-lasting results for your money. So do yourself a favor and instead of wasting time creating a home remedy for wrinkles, look for an all-purpose product - one that contains ingredients that target all the causes of wrinkles. Then you can enjoy the payoff of a well-researched, truly effective anti-wrinkle remedy.
