New Halogen-Free, Fire Retardant SealDry FR Tape Seals the Deal Against Moisture and Debris Ingression for Aerospace, Transportation, and Automotive Applications

FRANKLIN, MA, November 02, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In response to the growing regulatory pressure for tapes to be both environmentally friendly and standard compliant, the Patco Performance Engineered Tapes product group of Berry Plastics is pleased to introduce SealDry FR Tape, patented technology for the first halogen-free and fire retardant tape that meets the demanding interior moisture barrier applications for the aircraft, rail, freight and automotive industries.

Developed by Patco, an industry leader of performance engineered tapes, SealDry FR Tape has been optimally produced with transportation applications in mind. As a single-coated substrate, this next generation tape is unique, lightweight, and tough. The flame-retardant, hydrophobic acrylic adhesive is aggressive yet repositionable and leaves no residue. It is ideal for use as floor seam protection for wet areas such as galleys, seat track protection, moisture protection in cargo areas, abrasion resistance, and corrosion protection.

Also referred to as Patco 9425FR, SealDry FR Tape is free of polybrominated biphenyls and is environmentally friendly. The flame-retardant, self-extinguishing properties are in both the backing and adhesive. By eliminating the toxins typically associated with a flame retardant tape, SealDry FR Tape is able to meet and even exceed industry standards and boast environmental advantages. SealDry FR Tape has already received the endorsement of the aerospace industry with several key industry approvals, including: Boeing BMS 8-346B Type I Class 3; FAR 25.853(a); and EU 76/769/EEC. The tape is available for additional industry approvals.

"Producing tapes that meet the standards for various transportation applications has always been necessary. In today's world, it is the evolving needs in response to economic and environmental interests that require a new thinking regarding backings and adhesives in combination with excellent raw materials and disciplined engineering. Because Patco specializes in tape engineering, our R&D team is very responsive in new product development and is able to deliver a different kind of product," says Mr. Ernie Giordano, Director of Sales and Marketing, Patco. "We are very pleased with both the physical properties and performance attributes offered in SealDry FR Tape. By delivering a lightweight, interior-grade, moisture barrier, corrosion protection tape that is halogen-free, fire-retardant, and performance-driven, Patco has once again established a new industry benchmark," he adds.

SealDry FR Tape has a thickness of 6.1 mils and a weight of 5.0 oz per square yard. It is manufactured in a 9001:2008 certified facility by Berry Plastics Corporation and is available for immediate shipment.
